Achieving more through Training & Development
Co-op Childcare takes home NMT Nursery Training and Development Award 2018
In this blog we ask Babita Saroy, Quality Excellence Manager at Co-op Childcare, on her thoughts around winning the award – and the hard work the whole team put in to get there.
We are so thrilled to have secured such a prestigious award, marking the hard work all of our colleagues have put into their Training and Development over the last 12 months. Our focus as a childcare provider is to consistently improve the service and care we provide to our children, as well as offering industry leading development opportunities for our fabulous colleagues.
The NMT Nursery Training and Development award recognises an exceptional commitment to training and developing staff. The Award is presented to a childcare provider who is making an outstanding contribution to enhancing training within the childcare sector.
Why were we nominated? This year, we’ve put in a lot of hard work designing and implementing our new ‘learning and development programme’ across Co-op Childcare. As part of this, we’ve produced tailored training plans for our nursery colleagues to empower them to take responsibility of their own performance and develop the highest quality environments for our little ones.
“The talent management programme has benefited our colleagues because it’s allowed us to identify our own training needs. It’s motivational for all practitioners and enables them to progress within their career and practice. It’s opened up opportunities for myself personally, one year ago I was a Nursery Room Manager and through the support of the programme I have now progressed to become Nursery Manager!”
– Shukri Abdalla, Nursery Manager, Co-op Childcare Bounds Green.
And our hard work has paid off! We’ve seen our colleagues benefit massively with this new programme, one example is our number of Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ nurseries is at an all-time high. We’ve also achieved ‘Millie’s Mark’ across all our nurseries, which is an award recognising 100% of our colleagues are fully trained in paediatric first aid and are confident enough to put their knowledge into practice, and save a life, should they need to.
I’m so proud to be part of a group with so many outstanding colleagues, nursery settings and training opportunities. In such a fast moving sector it’s important that we don’t stand still, and we work hard to always be the best we can be to improve outcomes for our children. This award is a fantastic recognition of the work that (as we say) #TeamChildcare have put in over 2018 to better themselves and give our little ones the best possible start in life.
