Connect Childcare chats to Lisa Brown at General Day Nursery

With over 3,400 nurseries in our portfolio, we’ve decided to shine the spotlight on a different one each month, to get to know them a little better!

So, as part of our new, regular Q&A series, it’s over to Lisa Brown, nursery manager at General Day Nursery, to tell us more about her workplace, job role and experience using nursery management software.

  1. How long have you worked in the nursery sector?
    I’ve been in the sector for 13 years.
  2. Sum up your typical working day in three words:
    Fun, unpredictable and rewarding.
  3. Why did you choose Connect Childcare?
    We chose Connect Childcare because of the extensive range of different features the software offers – it really suited how we work at the nursery.
  4. Describe our nursery management software platform in one word?
  5. And your favourite feature?
    Invoicing and registers. I love how quick and easy it is to complete the end-of-month admin, at the click of a mouse, and being able to access documents straight from the app saves so much time. 
  6. What’s your biggest challenge as a nursery manager?
    Trying to fit everything in when we have so much to do. Each day is different – which I love – but it also means it’s very busy.
    Having technology that helps us to recoup some of those precious minutes – usually spent on admin tasks – is a real help!

    That it’s rewarding and no matter how you feel when you walk through those doors in the morning, you instantly smile when you see all the children. 

    Everybody has had such a tough year, but we have made some amazing friendships as a result. For instance, we recently became pen pals with a local care home.

    We had already been visiting them on a weekly basis before the pandemic began – which was really benefiting our youngsters and the residents there – but this had to stop because of lockdown, so we decided to write them a letter and it just evolved from there.

    There are 13 residents who each write a letter to a different child, and then we help the child write a letter back. It’s been in our local paper and both the children and residents love it!

    Spend more time with the children and less time on paperwork.
  2. When you’re not at work, how do you relax?
    I like to go on holiday – obviously not this year – and spend time with my family and friends.
  3. Finally, what advice would you give to nurseries considering investing in management software?
    Do it. It saves so much time and we don’t know what we’d do without it now.
    It also helped us so much during lockdown – we were able to send key information and updates to parents and vice versa. It has enabled us to keep child development going at home, even when the children weren’t in the traditional nursery setting.
