Free Webinar – Understanding Children’s Behaviour in Early Years
Supporting children’s behaviour isn’t simply about addressing what they shouldn’t do. Behaviour is a window into their emotional, sensory and developmental world. In this blog we explore why behaviour matters and how you can deepen your understanding through our free webinar: “Understanding Children’s Behaviour: Creating Calm and Connection in Early Years Settings”.
Creating Calm and Connection in Early Years Settings
Taking place on Thursday, 13th November 2025 at 7:15 PM, this virtual session will be hosted live on Zoom.
We’ve partnered with Alexandra Chiorando from Marmalade Early Years Consultancy, a qualified teacher, SENDCo, Ofsted inspector, and early years leader with over 30 years of experience in early education. Alexandra has worked closely with countless settings to help practitioners understand and support children’s behaviour. Drawing on both her professional expertise and her experience as a parent, she brings a compassionate, practical perspective to the challenges and rewards of supporting children’s emotional and behavioural development.
Why children’s behaviour deserves our attention
Behaviour in children is far more than a challenge to be managed:
- A signal of need: When a child acts out, withdraws, or is unsettled, they may be telling us something: sensory overload, emotional dysregulation, change of routine, or unmet needs. Alexandra emphasises that behaviour always has a reason.
- Foundation for learning & relationships: How a child regulates, interacts with others, deals with emotion and adapts to their environment underpins their ability to access learning and form positive relationships.
- Reflects the environment and interactions: The settings, expectations, transitions, relationships and supports around a child significantly shape behaviour. A responsive environment and secure relationships give children a stronger behavioural foundation.
- Setting them up for the future: When children develop self-regulation, emotional awareness, cooperation and adaptability, they are better placed to thrive not just now but as they progress through school and life.
Behaviour isn’t simply what children do, but a lens into how they’re being in the world. Understanding this makes all the difference.

Children’s behaviour tells us something important about their experience, their needs and their capacity to engage, regulate and learn. By shifting our lens from “managing behaviour” to “understanding behaviour”, we open a path to richer relationships, calmer environments and more confident children.
This session is tailored for everyone involved in supporting young children, from nursery practitioners and managers to EYFS leads and school transition teams. We hope you’ll join us for the webinar and let the insights guide your next steps.
